The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 will be the volume model. In my view, TAG Heuer’s is due to its combination of style, affordability, and timeless looks.
When looking for a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph watch. There are a lot of options to choose from. But according to TAG Heuer’s website, the selection is getting significantly smaller.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 CV201AR.BA0715. It is like this Carrera Calibre 16 but costs $50 more (though I’m not sure why), which is its sister model.
The ceramic bezel, automatic chronograph Calibre 16 movement. Also, the 41mm-wide steel case and bracelet are all identical.
The fact that the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 CV201AR.BA0715 has a dial. The tan-colored luminant on the hands and a more “vintage style”. This distinguishes it from the CBM2112.BA0651
It’s a good mix of the ultra-modern Carrera watches that Jean-Claude Biver’s TAG Heuer released and the timeless Carrera Chronograph.
The use of index-style hour markers instead of two-digit Arabic numeral minute markers… as the hour markers. These are one of the most important design features.
These features set this Carrera Chronograph Calibre 16 apart from watches from “yesterday.”
The TAG Heuer Carrera is one of many timepieces. A watch that was influenced by the company’s illustrious association with motorsports.
I guess that the Carrera has been able to blend in with contemporary fashion as a universal men’s watch. It suggests its motorsports past subtly and tastefully.
But better than any other TAG Heuer racing-style watch. The ceramic tachymeter scale bezel and the chronograph pushers. It looks like stopwatches are both part of that heritage.
The way the subsidiary seconds dial at 9 o’clock is designed to blend in with the dial. It is one of my favourite aspects of the design.
But, the chronograph subdials are given extra emphasis. Resulting in a dial layout that is more symmetrical than that of a typical three-register watch.
History
TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 is a famous watch known for its precision and performance. Its history dates back to 1963 when it was first introduced by the Swiss watchmaker, TAG Heuer.
At that time, the company’s CEO, Jack Heuer. He wanted to create a watch that would be perfect for drivers and racing enthusiasts.
He was inspired by the Carrera Panamericana, a legendary road race that took place in Mexico in the 1950s.
The first Carrera watch featured a chronograph function. This allowed drivers to measure their speed and lap times. It had a simple, elegant design with a clean dial and easy-to-read markers.
Over the years, TAG Heuer has continued to improve the Carrera watch. Adding new features and updating its design. In 1996, the company introduced the Carrera Calibre 16.
This was powered by a self-winding movement and featured a 42-hour power reserve. The Calibre 16 quickly became popular among watch enthusiasts and racing fans alike.
Its reliable movement and sporty design made it a favourite among drivers. While its elegant style made it suitable for everyday wear.
In 2007, TAG Heuer released a new version of the Carrera Calibre 16, featuring a larger case and a new dial design. The new watch also had a more powerful movement.
It has a 50-hour power reserve and a chronograph function that could measure up to 12 hours.
Since then, TAG Heuer has continued to update the Carrera Calibre 16. Releasing new versions with different materials, colours, and features.
In 2018, the company introduced a limited edition Carrera Calibre 16. It had a black and gold design, inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana race.
Today, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 is one of the best watches. It remains one of the most popular watches in the company’s lineup.
It’s a combination of precision, performance, and style. This has made it a favourite among watch enthusiasts and racing fans around the world.
Movement:
The Carrera Calibre 16 is, but, primarily a reliable daytimer. It has a handsome design and a reliable Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement.
This specific plan isn’t accessible with the in-house-made Label Heuer Type 1887. As may have been the case a couple of years before.
Instead, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 DD (for example, reference CV2A1V.BA0738). It is a little larger version of the same watch with a 43mm wide case.
It has a strikingly similar design. But it has a few notable additions. Such as a day of the week window next to the date window.
Along with a case that is 43 millimetres wide instead of 41 millimetres wide. Additionally, it has the same automatic Valjoux 7750 movement.
Case:
The Carrera Chronograph’s steel case has angular cuts. This gives it a very modern and masculine appearance. But they also evoke the Heuer Carrera watches of the past.
These watches are also suitable for most sports-related situations. Thanks to their domed sapphire crystal and 100-meter water resistance.
Even though TAG Heuer originally intended them to be “sports lifestyle” watches. The fact that contemporary Carrera watches are typically associated with having appeal for mainstream consumers.
This may be one of the reasons. Why do watch enthusiasts typically shy away from speaking too much about them? That doesn’t make them any less alluring.
The TAG Heuer Carrera’s ceramic bezel. Also, some of the dial’s aesthetics are modern for this generation.
But on a whole, the experience of wearing these attractive timepieces is. It has remained the same for about a decade, which is a good thing.
The next step, in my view, is to figure out. How to incorporate its Isograph hairsprings into the Calibre 16 (Valjoux 7750) movement. Something TAG Heuer has been slowly releasing improvements.
Bracelet: 
I’ve always thought the Carrera case’s sharp lugs looked better on a bracelet than a strap. The Carrera bracelet is about as elegant as it gets.
But it still makes you look like angular concrete blocks. As if you are your favourite building material.
Although not everyone is looking for that. I guess it will appeal to guys who want a masculine shout on their wristwatch.
TAG Heuer might think about adding more features to the Carrera bracelet at some point. Even though the bracelet is comfortable.
It does feature a small fold-over deployment clasp. Again, there is nothing wrong with it.
But, modern consumers expect bracelets to have novelties. Like a quick-release system or micro-adjusting clasps to make them stand out even more.
But, I will say that the bracelet’s construction is elegant. As it does not have any screws or pins. Which faces the outside and has a deployment that is not thicker than the bracelet.
As I mentioned earlier. TAG Heuer might want to give the spring-loaded Pelagos bracelet a try in its way, as Tudor did.
That was such an effective method. For making a watch bracelet that was both comfortable and secure. But no one else has attempted something similar since.
TAG Heuer has a design lab for it, and the Carrera Chronograph is probably where it will be shown off.
Dial: 
The party is represented by the dial. The play of white, red, and orange adds even more freshness to the matt mid-blue. This works well with the fixed ceramic tachy bezel.
I love the choice to use ceramic, BTW. The contrast white is excellent and lends a retro flavour. The break is provided by the white inner flange, which is uncommon on the Carrera.
This is something I particularly like. The central chrono hands, elapsed minutes and hours, and the outer flange minute track. They are all highlighted in red.
The running second’s register has bright orange alternating highlights. Even though In my view the red looks great with the black dial, this watch is all about blue, white, and orange.
I’d love to see that super 70s colour take over from the red, especially with the creamy beige lume. But, even though this might be my ideal scenario.
The dial looks pretty awesome in its current state. Even the text, logo, and date at number three are well-balanced.
