The Citizen Promaster Diver
This citizen watch has been on my wishlist for quite some time. I’m excited to finally write about it.
Case
With a 45mm case diameter and a weight of 163g. This watch is a big boy. It’s four times heavier than the Chandler Eco Drive.
I wouldn’t recommend this watch to anyone with a smaller wrist. The reason is its size.
Even for guys with average-sized wrists. It pushes the limits. Men with larger wrists look best wearing watches with a diameter of 44 to 48 millimeters.
But anything larger than 48 millimeters. It looks like a Flavor-Flav necklace to me.
Water Resistance
Concerning entering the water. The Promaster Diver has a water resistance rating of up to 200 meters.
100 meters of resistance is sufficient for most applications. It is more than enough for most people.
Movement
I never have to change the battery. As this watch uses the same Eco-Drive movement as the other two I bought.
The hands will continue to tick. It will tick as long as I occasionally expose it to sunlight.
Otherwise, leave it in a room that receives some light.
Crown
This timepiece’s crown has distinctive stainless. Crown also guards the watch. It has features of dive watches plus it has a pleasing shape.
The case looks great to me. There are a lot of chamfers all around the crown.
Contrary to other watches I’ve tried. This one has the strongest bezel I’ve ever seen. As you soar through the water, your setting won’t change, which is very promising.
Even in the dark the large and easily legible hands and indices make it ideal for underwater reading.
Overall, the Citizen Promaster Diver has impressed me greatly. It is a handsome timepiece with accurate and dependable movement. also in an affordable package.
Nighthawk Crystal
Okay, this is the most complicated watch I’ve ever seen. I chose the Blue Angels edition of the Promaster Nighthawk. Which was inspired by the game’s most elite Navy pilots.
Case
To be honest, I have no idea what half of the dial even means. Although it is completely impractical for my purposes.
The Promaster Nighthawk is a bit smaller than the Diver.
At 42 millimeters in diameter. But it is still quite large for wrists of average size.
The Nighthawk is also powered by an Eco-Drive motor. So as long as it is exposed to sunlight once every six months. It may never require a new battery.
Dial
With a thickness of 10 millimeters or 12 millimeters if you include the case back. The case has a rather high profile.
Even the Promaster Diver, with its weight and size. It does not have a profile that high.
Nonetheless, the blue ceramic bezel ring doesn’t make it look out of place.
Bezel
The mineral crystal rises above the bezel. Giving this watch a different depth that I appreciate.
An internal rotating bezel with fuel calculator indices is controlled by a second crown at 8 o’clock.
The 24-hour complication on this watch is one of my favorite features. As it is original and unlike anything else I have seen.
The 24-clock is a stacked semi-circle. It is on the left side of the dial with a white 1-12. Along with a yellow 13-24 to indicate AM and PM. Rather than the usual subdial window.
Under the minute, hour, and second hands. There is a rotating hand that has a white plane and a yellow plane spinning around.
There are many more obvious ways to determine whether it is AM or PM. Such as if a huge glowing ball of gas is blasting you with radiation in the sky. But I still find it cool.
The awesome circular cutouts that are typical of racing watch straps are on the genuine leather strap.
Crown
Although I’m not a huge Blue Angels or military fan.
I like this Promaster Nighthawk. The contrast between blue and yellow is attractive. It works well together.
The over-complication that’s what draws me to it. It is the key to this watch’s beauty.
If you’re a fan of intricate dials and technological marvels. Citizen is your go-to brand. The Promaster Nighthawk is a great option. if you’re looking for a tough and highly functional timepiece from the past.
Eco-Drive Chandler Citizen Watches
Case
At 37mm, it is small. Especially when compared to the Promaster Diver and Nighthawk.
I prefer watches smaller than 40 millimeters. it appears that the trend toward larger watches is coming to an end.
Movement
The Eco-Drive movement of the Chandler eliminates the need for battery changes and winding. The day-date window and the straightforward three-hand movement appeal to me.
It is a basic field watch with bright lume at sunset and easy-to-read Arabic numerals.
Citizen Watches eco drive chandler. My only beef with Citizen is that many of their timepieces. All three of the ones I’ve reviewed here use mineral crystals.
I would wear the Chandler daily. It has a classic appearance, is uncomplicated, and is a very dependable timepiece.
I tend to smash the glass of my watches. Sometimes into backpack hardware, desks, doors—anything. I’m not very gentle with my watches.
Crown
Because mineral crystal lacks the scratch resistance of sapphire or even a sapphire coating. These watches are susceptible to glass marking.
Because I’ll be wearing these watches every day rather than just on special occasions. It doesn’t bother me too much.
Still, if you’re like me and don’t give your watches much attention. It’s something to think about.
You should get some polishing compound. Also, polish your crystal a little bit around the two-year mark.
Aside from that, the Citizen Chandler is an excellent pocket watch. The canvas and leather straps are quite stiff. It takes some time to get used to.
But I like the metal rings because they last longer. The Chandler is a great watch for camping: It is rugged, compact, and only provides the essentials.
The Citizen Ecozilla
More commonly referred to as “EcoZilla.” It is enormous in every way. It is heavy, tall (18.6mm), and wide (48mm).
Movement
To maintain its tough reputation. It is a tool watch made of a lot of steel and glass. The Promaster BJ8050-08E’s Eco-Drive movement makes it simple to use.
It has a lume-heavy dial, crown guards, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. It also gives this tough diver even more confidence.
The capacitor inside will be charged by any light. You can keep track of time for six months when it’s fully charged. Be aware that the cell may die and the movement becomes useless.
If the watch is left in darkness for an extended period of time. Make sure it occasionally sees the sun.
Bezel
Although the absence of sapphire is disappointing. At least the mineral has been coated to prevent reflection.
If you take care of the bezel, it should last a long time. As it also protects the crystal from impact.
The mineral’s price is manageable given the Promaster’s low street price. But, it still feels like a failure.
The Citizen AW1151-04E
This citizen automatic watch has a very futuristic appearance. Thanks to its sleek, classic design and sparse use of color and texture.
Design
The watch is flat except for the photovoltaic cell on the dial. Which has a vertical striped texture. It looks great to me.
All of this techno style looks great with workout clothes or casual clothes. But it doesn’t look good in a professional or formal setting.
It also doesn’t work well in the evening. As the hour markers and hands only have a small amount of lume. This makes it hard to see.
Movement
Citizen is making use of the J810 Eco-Drive movement. It, like all Eco-Drives, runs on light. Plus it can hold a charge for up to six months.
Overall, the J810 movement is excellent. It is accurate to within a few seconds per month. An Eco-Drive movement can be powered by almost any light source. Though sunlight is always preferred.
Strap and Clasp
Despite its attractive look. I find the silicon rubber strap to be a bit uncomfortable. Both the stainless steel buckle and the strap themselves are of high quality.
Crystal, Case, and Dial
The dial is straightforward and well-assembled. As they sweep across the face.
The hands move with accurate calibrated precision. It’s aligned with perfection with the markers. Ion-blue coated steel and polished steel make up the case.
Blue steel has a high degree of scratch resistance and durability. Thanks to Citizen’s coating process.
The watch has looked great for months thanks to it.
